Fireside chat: Is the world in crisis? A United Nations view

Wednesday, March 22, 2023 | 5 PM US ET | 9 PM West Africa Time

“A new uncertainty complex is emerging never before seen in history.”

Dr. Pedro Conceição, Director of the United Nations Human Development Report Office, talks with Dr. Anirudh Krishna, Edgar Thompson Distinguished Professor of Public Policy at Duke University

Each year the United Nations reports on the state of the world in its Human Development Report. The past three years’ reports have consistently issued grave warnings – of the Anthropocene, of rising inequality, and of growing polarization – while holding out hope and plotting promising directions.

Join us at our hybrid fireside chat at Duke University, hosted by South-North Scholars and the Duke Center for International Development, to hear Dr. Pedro Conceição report from his position at the center of events at the United Nations, in conversation with Prof. Anirudh Krishna — followed by an open student Q&A.
