Achieving Africa’s Twin Goals: Industrialization and the Clean Energy Transition
Tuesday, April 18, 2023
11:30 AM US ET | 4:30 PM W. Africa | 6:30 PM E. Africa
As African countries and communities simultaneously confront climate change and pursue sustainable economic development to eradicate poverty, Africans face incredible challenges and opportunities.
What’s the relationship between African industrialization and the clean energy transition? How can these goals be approached as synergistically as possible? And steps can public and private development actors take to center African agency in conversations and projects on energy transition and industrialization?
Over 150 students from 10 countries in Africa and beyond engaged with this virtual expert panel co-hosted by South-North Scholars, the Africa Policy Group at the Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy, and the Duke Center for International Development.
We heard from four high-level experts at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), the African Development Bank, the Atlantic Council, and some of Africa’s top funders and firms in sustainable infrastructure — followed by an open student Q&A.
